Go! transportation magazine
Should we team up to spread the engineering gospel?

The folks at the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) started eGFI (Engineering, Go For It!), an engineering magazine for teens. ASEE has this to say of the 2008 launch of eGFI:

“ASEE announces new eGFI brand platform - Creative Education Publication, Web Site and E-newsletter to Inspire America’s Engineers of Tomorrow. The American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) announces the launch of its new eGFI brand. Highlighting the eGFI brand platform is the publication of the 4th edition of eGFI - Engineering, Go For It. eGFI is the colorful, inspiring magazine designed to attract middle-school and high-school students, particularly minorities and young women, and their parents, teachers and counselors to the exciting world of engineering and technology. eGFI very much encompasses many of the goals of Go! magazine, and there is lots of exciting content related to transportation on its website.

I’m wondering whether it would it be in the interest of Go! to seek out a partnership with the ASEE and eGFI?

It’s difficult for me to say at this point whether they are a “competitor” or a potential collaborator. If the continuation of Go! is the main interest of our group, then perhaps rolling Go! into the eGFI brand as an affiliate publication should be considered. However, if keeping Go! in-house and published by ISU’s InTrans is the main objective, then perhaps seeking partnership with eGFI is not in our best interest.

The year is quickly coming to a close, and Go! will be halfway through its publishing cycle come the second week of January. With that in mind, we need to be thinking about the future of our publication. Is it needed? Are people reading Go!? What benchmarks can we set to determine if we’re meeting Go!’s objectives? Finally, how can we ensure future funding?

I think we need to explore partnership possibilities with the ASEE and eGFI.
